Anthony Rizzo knows the importance of medical care.
As a teenager, Rizzo was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2008 and underwent 6 months of chemotherapy. That September, he found out the cancer was in remission and Rizzo hasn’t looked back since.
The All-Star first baseman and World Series champion is now taking the opportunity to give back to help those that helped him.
On Tuesday, August 29, Rizzo donated $3.5 million to Lurie Children’s Hospital.

A teary-eyed Rizzo gave a speech on the 18th floor, an area that will now be named in his honor.
“This means a lot to me, because I remember sitting with my mom, saying we were going to do this, 10 years ago,” Rizzo said while speaking to the patients and staff at Lurie Children’s Hospital. “To be able to give back and do this type of work is so much bigger than winning a World Series or to do anything on the baseball field.”
Coming into play on Tuesday Night, Rizzo is currently having another stellar season, reaching 30 home runs for the fourth straight season and on pace for a third straight 100 RBI season.
The Cubs are in first place with a 70-60 record, 2 1/2 games up on the Brewers in the National League Central.
