Stephen Curry signs multiyear TV, movie deal with Sony focusing on family-friendly content

Stephen Curry has gone Hollywood.

The Golden State Warriors  point guard has signed a multiyear media deal for TV, movies and potentially gaming and virtual-reality projects with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the company announced Monday. The dollar amount was not disclosed, but Sony said the deal was the biggest ever for an athlete.

Curry’s newly formed production company, Unanimous Media, will be located on the Sony Pictures studio lot in Culver City, Calif. The projects will focus on faith, sports and family-friendly content.

“I’ve been blessed to have this platform and I want to use it to affect the world positively,” Curry said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “Partnering with Sony to share inspiring content with a global audience was a foregone conclusion.”

“We’re thrilled to work alongside Steph to bring his positive, affirming brand to create content in the scripted and non-scripted television landscape,” Chris Parnell, co-president Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement. “He’s tapping into his drive and creative energy on the court to expand to horizons off the court and we’re honored to be a part of it.”

Curry, 30, has become one of the most popular players in the NBA. The two-time MVP and two-time NBA champion signed a five-year, $201 million contract, the largest in NBA history, with the Warriors last offseason. He also has the NBA’s best-selling jersey for the third consecutive year.

“It’s very humbling to know I’m able to be on the stage that I am, and I think God has put me in this situation to change this perspective on what it is to be a man of God and a player in the NBA,” Curry told Sports Spectrum in 2013. “I want to use the gifts God gave me on the basketball court to uplift His name. That’s at the forefront of why I play the game.

“Being a father and a husband, I’m hopefully able to speak to a lot more people who are going through the same thing. It’s nice to talk to them. It’s pretty powerful how many people God has put in my family’s path in the year and a half we have been out here on the West Coast. It’s amazing that if you’re open to it, ask God to keep your eyes open, and He’ll put you in situations to witness and make people stronger.”

Now with the production company Curry has started, he’s in a position to help make people stronger for Christ through the content he produces.
