Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has made a name for himself in the major leagues. As a left-handed hitter, he has had tremendous success on the field, especially at bat, where he has earned the nickname, “Crush Davis.”
In 2007 Chris was drafted by the Texas Rangers where his professional career began.
“I had a great rookie year,” he remembers, “but through that success, I had kind of gotten off track.”
When Chris was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in 2011, he began to grow in his faith in Jesus Christ and in his ability to hit the ball out of the park. By 2013, he was leading the League in home runs for the year.
But something was hiding underneath all of his success and fame. Something that brought Chris to a point of great humility.

“Oftentimes, as baseball players, we think we need to live up to this standard that is set for a professional athlete,” says Chris, “but it’s good for me to take a step back and share my struggles with others. It means a lot to me to be able to share what I’ve gone through; hopefully I am able to relate to others who have gone through similar circumstances. This is a tool for me to serve God and be reminded of why I am here—what my role is in the game of baseball.”
