Do you have a teacher who has made an impact on your life? Being a teacher is a noble calling, but did you know that every Christian is called to be a teacher?
Part of making disciples is teaching those we are discipling to obey all that Jesus has commanded of us. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
The words “observe,” “obey” or “keep” used in John 14 mean “to guard.” It’s a picture of a secret service agent whose life revolves around guarding the president. Empowered by the Spirit, our lives are to revolve around doing what the Bible says. We often have this false idea that knowing the Bible is synonymous with spiritual maturity, but Jesus tells us that consistently knowing and doing the Bible leads to maturity. We show we love Jesus not by how loud we sing on Sunday, but how we obey Him every day.
So if you want great motivation to grow in your relationship with Jesus, then teach those you are discipling about how you are learning and obeying His Word. The question is, out of your love for Jesus, does your life revolve around knowing and doing His Word? Pray today that you would grow in your obedience as a disciple so you can teach others and help them grow.
