Have you ever enjoyed a victory with your team only to walk away and feel like a failure yourself? Sometimes the affirmation we’re longing for is for us to be pleased with ourselves. We can be our own worst enemies when it comes to our mindset.
At the root of Gospel living is repositioning ourselves from the center of our existence. It’s having faith that though things may not always go the way we hoped — and we would sometimes write the story differently — we trust the Author of our story is good, right and knows far better than we do.
There are times we do well in our own estimation. Take care to not be at the center of your own personal celebration. There are times we feel we failed. Take care to not be at the center of your own personal pity party. None of this is just about you. God has a funny way of reminding us of that. There are a number of times I have walked off the platform after preaching and felt like it was a complete miss. Those have historically been the sermons that God seemed to move even more powerfully. I don’t understand it. All I know is I’m called to be as faithful as possible. The rest is not up to me.
If you’ve been faithful, you’ve given the performance God asks you to give. Trust Him with what you cannot control.
