For many basketball coaches, one of the tougher things we face is a full-court press. This is especially challenging during a season in which most of our opponents do not utilize this defense. The purpose of it is to create chaos and confusion, forcing the offensive team to act hastily and turn the ball over.

Patience is important to defeat the press. The offense must reverse the ball from side to side and keep it in the middle as much as possible. A team that is patient can not only break the press but also score baskets in transition through good passing and movement.

Satan acts very much like a good pressing team. He knows when to turn up the pressure, and he is always looking to create chaos and force us to make bad decisions. His goal is to turn us away from God.

Fortunately, we have God in the middle of our press breaker. He does not want us to break the press alone. He is always there for us, waiting for our next pass and helping us navigate life’s storms. When we pass to God through prayer, reading His Word and spending time in reflection, we beat Satan’s press and find victory in our daily lives.
