Having the right equipment is really important. You can’t play soccer without a ball, or hockey without a stick. A painter needs a canvas and something to paint with. A mechanic needs a wrench (and other stuff that I don’t know about because I’m not a mechanic). With all that said, having the right tools is only one half of the equation.
Give me a paintbrush and I’ll make you something, but it isn’t going to be nice to look at. Give me a wrench and I’ll probably cause more damage. The truth is, a tool is only as good as the one who is using it.
Your life is also designed to be used powerfully. If your life is a tool designed to be used powerfully, who is the one operating it? Who is the expert or master making decisions? Who is the one directing how your life is used? If we’re the ones who are calling the shots for our direction and decisions, we’re trusting in our own expertise. Like me operating a wrench, when we’re our own master, we can end up causing a lot more damage than we even think we can.
There’s one Master, one Expert, one Artist who can make a masterpiece out of who we are, and use your life powerfully in the way it was designed. God is the only One qualified to rule over our lives and choices and efforts.
