Tennessee came to Mississippi State last season and many thought the Vols would beat us with no problems. At half, the game was tied at 17. When regulation finished, we were still tied, 34-34.

As we were waiting for the TV timeout to conclude and the coin toss for overtime to happen, I had an overwhelming feeling that I was supposed to find Tennessee QB Joey Aguilar and pray for him. I tried to shake it and put it in the back of my mind, but I couldn’t. So, I quietly bowed my head and prayed, “Lord, if this is what You want, let me find him.”

The Vols ended up winning, and afterward I looked for him for about five minutes, before concluding that he had already gone to the locker room. As I turned to head in, my face almost ran into his chest! I asked him if I could pray for him, he dropped his helmet, we embraced and I prayed.

What I didn’t know was that a reporter from Knoxville recorded the whole thing and posted it. It went viral and more than 330,000 people watched the video.

What if I had chosen not to do what God had asked me to do? What if I had walked away? I don’t know the answer to those questions, but I do think that some of those viewers may have never been exposed to the Gospel.

Did anyone confess Christ because of it? Did anyone grow closer to Christ? Only Heaven knows, but if I hadn’t been obedient, then none of it would have ever happened!

What is God asking you to do? Don’t delay, do it today!

— Scott Nicholson, Mississippi State football chaplain
