“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13

In certain sports, there are times when the odds seem almost impossible to overcome. Whether facing an elite opponent or being plagued by injuries, obstacles can appear overwhelming. Yet, the most breathtaking moments occur when a team or individual defies all odds and achieves the seemingly impossible. Knowing that you have teammates or coaches in your corner and that you are not facing your opponent alone is half the battle. Sometimes their belief in you can propel you forward.
However, when we face trials outside of sports, we often feel isolated and believe the trial will overwhelm us. When those trials come, and they will, remember these truths: You are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12:1), reminding us that God does not abandon people when they suffer. You have the Spirit of the living God dwelling inside you (1 Corinthians 3:16). You are never alone (Psalm 139). Even when circumstances seem overwhelming, there is a Heavenly perspective that sees more clearly and will help you endure, providing a way forward (Romans 8). Seek out a community that reflects Jesus through and through, and watch as they come alongside you when the odds are stacked against you.
Jesus knew what it was like to endure trials. He faced the cross, choosing to persevere through the trial rather than seeking an escape. He disregarded the shame because He knew the joy that awaited Him. Jesus, who is trustworthy, will not let you face your trials alone.
