Daily Devotional: Tuesday, December 9 – The Whole Team Wins

“But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” — 1 Corinthians 12:24b-26

The Iowa Wolves are the G League affiliate of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The job of the G League team is to support its NBA team.

During the first half of the 2024-25 G League season, the Wolves were in first or second place. They were one of the most dominant teams in the G League. But during the second half of the season, they fell to almost last place.

Why did they go from first to worst? Because their best players got moved up to the Timberwolves. Jaylen Clark, Jesse Edwards, Leonard Miller and Bones Hyland all started with the Iowa Wolves, but then got called up to Timberwolves. Not even the best basketball teams can lose four of their best players and continue to succeed.

But even though the Iowa Wolves season didn’t end well, the team rejoiced. Why? Because their job is to support the Timberwolves, and they made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals of the NBA. Their success was our success.

Similarly, Christians are one big team. Paul compares this one big team to the human body (1 Corinthians 12:21-26). When one part of the body rejoices, we should all rejoice. When one part of the body succeeds, we all succeed. So when one church succeeds, we all rejoice. When one ministry succeeds, another ministry should rejoice.

Whose success can you celebrate today? Text or call another Christian to let them know you are celebrating their success.
