“Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.” — Philippians 2:14-15 (NLT)

God isn’t impressed with our Scripture tattoos or crosses and Jesus apparel plastered on our social media pages. In actuality, God commands us to live according to His Word.
As athletes, we sometimes try to separate faith from sport, but God’s grace is sufficient to live out our faith while playing our sport. And followers of Jesus are held to a higher standard because of the Name we bear. Whether a verse in your bio or a hoodie exclaiming “Jesus Won,” any declaration of faith illuminates a large target for others to ridicule and judge.
Persecution is inevitable. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2:14-16 (NLT), “Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless.”
God didn’t send His Son to die for us to just be average. The world is a fallen place and followers of Christ should stand out. Accountability increases as we walk with God more faithfully.
Fear not. Be grateful that God trusts us to walk into locker rooms and fields as His ambassadors. When chaos erupts, remember who you are and Whose you are. Stay rooted in God’s Word, not emotions or situations. You might be the only Bible people encounter, so make a great impression that leads them closer to Christ, not further away.
