“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” — Colossians 3:23

In sports, players are placed in certain positions on their teams — positions they are skilled at or have played in for a long time. Sometimes they might be asked to play a different position that they’re not used to or haven’t played in for quite some time.
I think of baseball and Kiké Hernandez of the L.A. Dodgers, who’s played every position except catcher — that’s eight positions! He wants to play and help the team wherever he’s needed. I don’t know that he’s ever complained or hesitated because he loves playing the game and is always willing to do this.
My former music director retired recently after more than 20 years in ministry. He not only did worship ministry, but he also had a hand in missions, care ministry, adult ministry and more. In all those times, I never heard him complain or feel like he was doing something he didn’t want to do (Philippians 2:14). He was always of the attitude that whatever was needed, however God could use him, that’s what he would do. So when he was asked to step into different roles, he did it and did his best (Colossians 3:23, above).
There may be times where you will be asked to step into a role that you may not feel comfortable in or that you’ve never done before. Just look to God and ask Him to give you strength, wisdom and the willingness to do the work with all your might for Him. He will use you in whatever role you step into to further His Gospel.
