Every new season is filled with resolutions, hopeful promises and fresh vision. We start with blank slates, clean dry-erase boards and unblemished expectations. We are excited, anticipating and eager for what is ahead. But the real question is this: How do we keep that fire burning all season long?
Every athlete needs more than motivation. Motivation can start the journey, but the Word of God sustains it. Joshua 1:8 (above) gives us a recipe for good success: study the Word, meditate on it day and night, and obey what it says. God’s promise is clear: “Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”
Psalm 1:1-3 gives us another key ingredient. It teaches us to guard our influences. Stay away from bad advice. Do not stand around receiving from people with the wrong mindset. Watch out for voices that lack faith and ridicule you for yours. Instead, delight in the Word of God and meditate on it day and night.
When we stay planted by the steady stream that comes from time with God, we become like trees planted by rivers of water. We bear fruit in every season. We do not wither when pressure comes. We do not grow weary or faint when the season gets long.
Good success is not just about winning games or reaching goals. It is about staying rooted, obedient and fruitful in God. This season, choose the Word. Choose obedience. Choose the stream. That is the recipe for good success.
