Linebacker Sam Acho returning to the Bears on a 2-year deal

Bears linebacker Sam Acho intends to re-sign with Chicago on a two-year deal worth $7.5 million with $3 million guaranteed. His brother Emmanuel broke the news Wednesday morning on Twitter.

Acho started 12 games for the Bears last season at outside linebacker and finished with three sacks and 27 tackles. Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft by Arizona, Acho moved to Chicago in 2015 after four seasons with the Cardinals.

Sam’s faith in Christ is at the core of who he is and when he arrived in the NFL, he wanted to be open about his faith and not let the fame or the money to get to him.

“Getting to the NFL became a dream come true,” Acho said on the Sports Spectrum podcast in 2017. “I just saw God open up so many doors for me to even get there, so once I got there, it just became something where I wanted to glorify God in everything. I was scared when I got to the NFL. I didn’t know if the money was going to change me or the fame or success. One of the guys, his name is Rudy Niswanger, he told me this: ‘Money isn’t fame, its just a magnifier. It’s going to make bigger what you were doing before, whether evil or good. You have nothing to worry about, just make sure your heart is in the right place.’ So that was my mindset coming into the NFL.”
