Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown, Lions’ Terrion Arnold, Jaguars’ Travis Hunter among recent NFL baptisms

Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown stole the spotlight in a heavyweight showdown against the Detroit Lions in Kansas City on Sunday night. The seventh-year pro scored two second-half touchdowns, and the Chiefs clawed back to a 3-3 record with a 30-17 win against one of the league’s best teams.

Brown’s first touchdown came in the third quarter, when he received a pop pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and sped the rest of the way to the end zone.

His second score came on a three-yard pass in the fourth quarter to extend Kansas City’s lead. The play earned Brown his first multi-touchdown game since he was with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021.

Brown finished the day with four receptions for 45 yards and the two scores, bringing his 2025 totals to 30 receptions, 302 yards and three touchdowns. After a shoulder injury suffered in the preseason kept him out much of 2024 — his first season with the Chiefs — he signed a one-year contract extension in March to remain with the team, and he’s proving to be a valuable piece in Kansas City’s receiving corps.

Brown’s big week on the field paralleled his big week off of it. On Friday, the Hollywood, Florida, native and his fiancée, Zoei Billions, were baptized. Chiefs team chaplain Marcellus Casey baptized Brown, while Casey’s wife, Stephanie, baptized Billions.

Brown posted a video of the baptism on TikTok on Saturday, along with the caption, “Living For Jesus. Serving Others.”

After his performance against the Lions, Brown mentioned his baptism in his postgame press conference.

“I’m getting comfortable. All glory to God, really,” Brown said when he was asked how he’s getting used to the Chiefs’ offense. “I got baptized Friday, so this whole weekend’s been amazing for me.”

Later in the press conference, Brown reiterated that he gives all glory to God and said his baptism comes after a reaffirmation of his faith following a year of confusion and doubts that stemmed from his injury.

“Last year, I had a lot on me — a lot on me mentally,” he said. “It all boils down to, ‘Don’t worry about the extra stuff.’ I felt myself second-guessing a lot of stuff, and as a believer, that’s not what I should do.”

He continued later: “I’m a follower of [God]. All of this is a blessing that’s from Him, and I don’t take it for granted.”

And Brown wasn’t the only player in Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday night to have been baptized recently. Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold didn’t play due to a shoulder injury sustained against Cincinnati last week, but he did undergo the sacrament late last month. Author Jason Wilson carried out the baptism.

“Salvation isn’t about performance — it’s about your position,” Arnold wrote in part in an Instagram post documenting his baptism. “In Christ, salvation has positioned you in Him — secure, forgiven, and loved — not because of your stats in life or on the field, but because of His sacrifice (Ephesians 2:8-9).”

Additionally, before his game on Sunday (a 20-12 home loss to Seattle), Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver/defensive back, and winner of the 2024 Heisman Trophy, Travis Hunter got baptized as well.

“It’s Sunday. It’s God’s day,” Hunter said after the game, via ESPN. “I’ve been planning to go get baptized for a minute. I changed my life over to become a better man.”

He continued later, “It means a lot. I’m becoming a better man and leaving my old self and starting a new chapter.”

The baptisms of Brown, Arnold and Hunter demonstrate once again that God is working powerfully in the hearts of players across the NFL.
