Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson enjoyed a breakout season last year, surpassing the 1,000-yard plateau for the first time and helping lead the Sun Devils to the College Football Playoff. His efforts earned him first-team All-Big 12 honors and he was named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
This season, Tyson is on pace to eclipse his impressive stats and earn even more accolades.

The redshirt junior, in his third year with Arizona State after one with Colorado, has already caught 47 passes for 523 yards and seven touchdowns through six games so far in 2025. He’s 16th in the nation in receiving yards and tied for second in touchdowns.

Arizona State is 4-2 but unranked after a 42-10 blowout loss to Utah on Saturday. Yet, Tyson is still climbing NFL draft boards. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Tyson excels in route-running and short-area quickness. His play-making ability is expected to translate well to the NFL, and he’s almost universally considered a first-round talent. ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper lists him as the No. 8 overall prospect (No. 2 wide receiver), while CBS Sports projects him to be the third overall pick.
If he were to be drafted in the first round, as many predict, Tyson would not be the first in his family to accomplish that feat; his brother, Jaylon, was selected No. 20 overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Amid his growing football stardom, Jordyn is staying humble by reflecting on what Christ did for His people on the cross.
“Regardless of what happens in my life, I’m still gonna be a follower — still gonna have that faith,” he recently told The Walk Foundation, an athlete-led ministry, while wearing a Jesus Won shirt. “Yes sir, I fully trust [God’s plan.] There’s obviously some stuff that I want to happen, but it don’t work like that all the time.”
The son of military parents, Tyson grew up in Allen, Texas, in a very disciplined household. His family took him to church occasionally, but he never spent time reading the Bible for himself. He said it wasn’t until he got to Arizona State and met guys involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) that his understanding of God began to deepen.
“I didn’t realize Jesus really had His hand on me my whole life,” he told The Walk. “I was so lost in the things of the world and just living life trying to make it through years. But Jesus really had His hand on me the whole time, and I was just so naive to it. … I didn’t give all the credit to Him at first, but now I give all the credit to Him.”
Tyson prays before games, wears eye black in the shape of a cross under both eyes, and points to Heaven after his touchdown grabs. He has a tattoo that reads “Fear God” and, in March, he underwent the sacrament of baptism.
“I feel like my identity is not a football player; my identity is in Christ,” he said. “So, that’s part of it, getting baptized.”
He made an Instagram post documenting the occasion. The caption read in part, “I serve a perfect and amazing God and I am nothing without him.”

Even as his football skill will be widely praised in the lead-up to the 2026 NFL Draft, Tyson will seek to remain grounded in the grace of God.
Next on the schedule, Tyson and his Sun Devils will host top-10 opponent Texas Tech (6-0) on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET.
