Let’s be clear: You can’t work your way to Heaven. Salvation is not about what you do, it’s about what you believe. Because what you believe drives what you do. In John 6:28-29, Jesus’ disciples asked Him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” And Ephesians 2:8 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
You only need a signed contract to be a player in the NBA. But becoming a highly productive, efficient and successful player demands everything you have. The same is true in your Christian life. Once you have received Christ by faith, the work of becoming who He has called you to be begins — it’s called discipleship.
Spiritual growth is an exercise of Godly wisdom, which can only be obtained through obedience to God’s Word. In Luke 6:46, Jesus asked, “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
Knowledge is knowing what’s between the front and back covers. Understanding is applying it to your life. The practical outcome is Godly wisdom others can see and are impacted by. The most important gap for most Christians is not between what they know and what they don’t know about the Bible, it’s the gap between what they already know and what they don’t do according to the Word of God.
Becoming wise starts with knowing and doing the Word of God!
