“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. All of these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” (1 Corinthians 12: 4,11-12)

Using Your Talents

The 2015-2016 Leicester City team that won the English Premier League at 5000-1 odds and became one of the greatest underdog stories in sports history are without question my favorite sports team ever. Their journey from barely escaping relegation to becoming champions of England in the span of two seasons is truly remarkable.

What made this team so special is the way each and every player had a distinct role. They compiled a bunch of players with specific skill sets, many that other teams didn’t want, and allowed them to play to their strengths. The 11 regular starters for this team understood what their jobs were and didn’t try to do too much or step into someone else’s role. The result was a team who was so much better than the sum of its parts that some of the most expensive squads in the world couldn’t stop them.

We are all part of the same team, the body of Christ. As “players” on God’s team, we all bring something different to the table. Each of us has an important role to play that is unique from everyone else’s. We need to make sure that we are using out gifts to fulfill the role that God has given us on His team while allowing others to use their gifts, too.

We need to remember that God gave us the gifts we have for a reason. He wants us to use them!
