In Sports Spectrum Magazine’s Fall 2022 issue, we feature some of football’s most faithful followers of Christ who also rank among the game’s elite.
The cover story focuses on New Orleans Saints All-Pro Demario Davis, who details how he surrendered his career to God and has since become one of the best linebackers in the NFL. In our time with him, we also captured some incredible photos that give a snapshot of his trademark intensity. Demario’s wife, Tamela, is also featured, as she discusses her gratefulness for God’s transformation of her life.
We were also able to spend time with and take photos of 49ers legend Bryant Young, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. After waiting 10 years for his name to be among those chosen, he used the opportunity to praise the name of Christ and honor the life of his son, Colby.
Throughout their time in the NFL, Davis and Young have been built up by team chaplains, and we also feature the work of such leaders in this issue. Len Vanden Bos of the Bills, Earl Smith of the 49ers and Johnny Shelton of the Ravens give us an inside look at how NFL chaplains minister to their teams, on top of the numerous other roles they take on.
Last but not least, we talked to Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, who’s coming off his Heisman-winning 2021-22 season. He details how he was raised in a family of faith, and remains grounded by his relationship with the Lord while he aims to “embody Christ in all that I do.”
