Two words take me back to Super Bowl-champion head coach Andy Reid’s press conferences. He’d begin most of those sessions by running through injuries, maybe lay out a brief projection of the week ahead. Then come those words: “Time’s yours.” A tacit allowance that reporters could begin asking questions.
Time’s yours.
What if we approach our time on earth with the same recognition?
This is our time to live out what God has called us to do. To share the story He has given us. To make an impact for Him.
Like in those press conferences, time is mostly ours. We have free will on how we spend our time. We can choose to make the most of it for Jesus, a choice we must willingly and repeatedly make. Will we take the small steps each day to spend time in the Word and talk to God? Will those small steps add up to big actions in the way we live? Will we love the world or will we consistently remind ourselves of God’s greater goodness and promise? These are our choices.
Ultimately, though, our time is in His hands. Every day of our lives was recorded before one of them had taken place (Psalm 139:16). He knows the beginning, the end and the in-between. We live our lives day by day without knowledge of the days ahead.
It is all preparation for the day when we are made new in Christ. For a time when we hope to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23). For a time that doesn’t slip away like numbers on the game clock.
Yet, doesn’t living for that time call us to make the most of this time?
Surround yourself with people who pray for, encourage and cheer for you. Be someone who prays, encourages and cheers for others. Like a game clock that will expire, so too will our lives on this earth. So run the play. Go all out. Do it for Jesus.
