Life can be different for elite athletes. Depending on the sport and level of competition, reality alters from one to another.
Always be reminded of this wisdom from Proverbs 18:16 (NKJV) when thinking about the gift given to perform athletically: “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” Embrace every trial and tribulation because one day your cleats will take their rightful position in retirement, collecting dust for years to come. Until then, utilize God’s gifts to boldly enter rooms with the Holy Spirit.
Pour into people and communities you encounter along your journey. The gift God provides allows you to give back to others. Don’t be greedy. Generously bless others as you plant dreams for the next generations to follow your footsteps. Your legacy doesn’t begin when your jersey is retired — it began the moment you knew you wanted to make it to the next level. Your story is inspirational, so enjoy the privilege to maximize the gifts God blesses you with.
Never forget the great men, women, coaches and organizations who played impactful parts in your success. Eliminate distractions. Silence the noise and keep your eyes on Jesus. Constantly search for opportunities to bring the Lord into more rooms where doors are opening for you to showcase the wonderful gift God blessed you with.
