THIS IS THE SPORTS SPECTRUM PODCAST WITH MATT FORTE & JASON ROMANO, FEATURING NESTOR CEJA
Nestor Ceja is a Major League Baseball umpire. After going through the MLB Training Academy, he worked his way through the minor leagues before making his MLB debut in August 2020 during the shortened COVID season. In 2024, Ceja was one of seven umpires to be a part of the MLB All-Star Game. He also called his first postseason game in the National League Wild Card Series between San Diego and Atlanta.
Umpiring runs in the Ceja family, as Nestor has two brothers-in-law who are minor league umpires. Nestor is the second-ever MLB umpire who was born in Mexico.
Today on the podcast, Nestor Ceja discusses his upbringing in a Catholic family, his path to becoming an umpire, and the pivotal moments that led him to accept Christ. He reflects on the challenges of being an umpire, the importance of maintaining his faith amidst the pressures of the job, and the providence of God in his life. Nestor also shares about his experiences in Cuba, where he was baptized, and how he stays connected to his faith during the long MLB season.
