Super Bowl Sunday has become one of the biggest days of the year on the sporting calendar. Millions of people around the world tune in for a game of football.
The first Sunday in February is also one of the biggest outreach opportunities for the body of Christ. Through Football Sunday, a movement is growing to bring glory to the Name above all names on football’s biggest day.
What is Football Sunday? It’s a resource for churches to provide their people with an inside look at faith in the NFL in a way that’s relatable to all. The main feature is a sermon-replacement video starring prominent NFL players, including some playing on Super Sunday, along with other tools geared to reach communities.
This year’s video features the stories and testimonies of Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, and former NFL linebacker Sam Acho. It is hosted by Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy and former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson.
For a fourth year, Sports Spectrum also produced a 32-page Football Sunday special-edition magazine. Copies were included with every purchase of the Football Sunday package, and also sent out to all subscribers. The magazine features stories on Cooks, Wentz and Acho; the history of Football Sunday; as well as Super Bowl stats and numbers, and devotionals from NFL players.
More than half the price of every FBS package sold in 2021 was donated to the ministry of Compassion International.
Football Sunday, which began in 2015 with one video, has reached more than 5 million people in more than 5,000 churches and ministries. With additional tools each year, the movement continues to grow. Visit FootballSunday.com for more information.
