Falcons RB Bijan Robinson enjoys career day, says he plays ‘to show the gifts that God’s given me’

On the back of one of the best games in the young career of star running back Bijan Robinson, the Atlanta Falcons upended the Washington Commanders, 34-27, at home on Sunday. The Falcons bounced back from a 30-0 drubbing in Week 3 to move to 2-2 and within one game of the division-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.

Robinson, a third-year man out of Texas, paced Atlanta throughout the day with a career-high 181 yards from scrimmage (75 rushing and a career-high 106 receiving) and also contributed a second-quarter rushing touchdown from 14 yards out.

“I’ll be an overall all-around player. Do it in the run game. Do it in the pass game,” Robinson told reporters after the game. “That’s why I’m here, to show the gifts that God’s given me on both sides from running routes being a receiver to being a running back. That’s what I like to do. It only helps this offense; it only helps this team.”

Robinson appears to be hitting his stride in his third year in the league. With his performance on Sunday, the No. 8 overall pick from the 2023 NFL Draft has now totaled at least 100 scrimmage yards in 10 consecutive games. Through four games in 2025, he’s on pace to set a new career high in receiving yards while recording his second straight 1,000-yard rushing season. However, what the 2024 Pro Bowler most wants is to reach the playoffs for the first time.

“We just gotta continue to stay humble, continue to stay consistent, never get too big of a head,” he said Sunday, “because you obviously see what can happen when you get too big of a head: you lose by 30, just like that. So, that’s my job to keep this offense down here and never get up here, because as soon as you start hearing all the worship and all the praise from other people, that’s when you get beat.”

Robinson has certainly made an impact on the field during his time with Atlanta, but he’s also brought a servant heart to the city. The Bijan Robinson Foundation is his means of doing just that.

“Guided by God’s Word and a passion for giving back, Bijan makes an impact in the communities where he plays football,” his foundation’s website reads. “He established the Bijan Robinson Foundation in 2023 to make a difference in four key areas: Faith, Homelessness, Youth and Literacy.”

Despite being in the thick of the season, he set aside time last Tuesday to host a book fair at Mercedes-Benz Stadium through his foundation. The book fair — titled “Bijan Reads” — served thousands of Atlanta elementary school students who could pick up reading materials for free. Reading is near and dear to Robinson, as is improving the lives of children.

“I have such a big heart for kids,” he said, via the Atlanta Voice. “I believe God put me on this earth to inspire kids.”

Robinson has spoken about his faith in Christ since his time at Texas. He writes “Trust in the Lord” and “Let’s make God famous” in his Instagram bio, and he writes “God is the only way” in his X bio. He’s also been known to wear an earring with a cross dangling from it.

“I wouldn’t be here without God. [Faith is] the biggest part of my life,” Robinson said in a feature video released by the Falcons last year. “I put these Sunday messages out. I always go back to that because there’s so many people who just want a word of, not just like me speaking about Jesus and who He is and how He can affect and change your life, but it’s a positive message at the end of the day.”

He continued later: “I do all the things that is necessary for me to continue my relationship with God. Even after games, in postgame interviews, I never go without saying ‘God’ first. … I play for Him. I play for God. I do everything in my life for God, so He’ll only continue to keep blessing you. My faith is my biggest thing.”

“It’s obviously such a blessing just to know that God brought me to be here, in Atlanta, and use my skills, use my talents [for] the whole team, the city,” he said after being drafted. “I really can’t wait to see what God has in store for me.”

In store for Robinson and his teammates in the immediate future is a bye in Week 5. The Falcons make their return to the field the following week with a “Monday Night Football” showdown at home against the Buffalo Bills (4-0) on Oct. 13. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. ET.
