49ers Marquise Goodwin grateful to God in midst of losing baby

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin announced on his Instagram page that he and his wife had lost their baby due to complications early Sunday morning.

“I just wanna thank those who’ve genuinely prayed for @morganakamomo & myself through out this pregnancy. Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family.”

Hours after losing their child, Goodwin somehow was able to suit up and play in the 49ers game Sunday afternoon against the Giants. He caught an 83-yard touchdown reception in helping San Francisco win their first game of the season, 31-21 at Levi’s Stadium.

After Goodwin caught the deep pass for a touchdown from quarterback C.J. Beathard, he blew a kiss to the sky before crossing the goal line. Then, Goodwin showed his emotion as he dropped to his knees in prayer before his teammates rushed over to congratulate him.

In September, Goodwin posted to his Instagram page a picture of his wife and him announcing their pregnancy and calling it a “blessing from above.”
