Priorities.
God is teaching me about priorities. When you’re in the game of football, unfortunately football is the priority. You have to put all your effort and focus into football; my wife knows this all too well.
As you transition out, you realize, it’s got to be God first, it’s got to be my wife second, and it’s got to be my kids third — in that order. And then work comes after that. For me, my priority is really taking advantage of every moment I’m at home with my children, pouring into them and teaching them who Christ is, why He loves us and how we can be Christlike. I want to show them how we can be a light in a dark world right now.
I really want to enjoy where God has us as a family right now. Psalm 16 talks about not looking for the things of this world because they really don’t matter.
“Lord, You alone are my portion and my cup; You make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.” — Psalm 16:5-6
Enjoy the moment God has you in because He has you here for a reason. That’s where I am with my kids. During each phase with my kids I think, “Oh, I can’t wait until they can drink a bottle, or they’re out of diapers, or they can play sports, or they’re in school, or…” Too often we can’t wait until the next step. But God is showing my wife and I both that we are to enjoy every minute of where we are right now because we’re never going to get these moments back.
Right now, I’m focusing on being present and knowing that God has me right here for a reason. He’s preparing something for me and I’m going to enjoy this season of preparation.
