An incredible summer for Sydney McLaughlin continues. After winning two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, the track superstar announced Wednesday that she is engaged to longtime boyfriend and former NFL player Andre Levrone Jr., who proposed at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“I still can’t comprehend how someone who posses everything I’ve prayed for, has finally come into my life,” McLaughlin wrote on Instagram. “Our growth together exceeds what the dates on a calendar show. I fall in love with you more and more each day off of the strength of your faith. Andre, you are the most God-fearing, passionate, honest, loving, hard working, protective, and genuine man I’ve ever met. I see Jesus in you. And as a result it makes you so easy to love.
“I truly did not know the definition of love until I met you; a sacrificial choice to lay down your life for the well being of another. With that being said, there is no one I’d rather lay down my life for. The calling God has on our lives goes far beyond our love for one another. This union will impact lives for His kingdom, and that’s what excites me most. I have no fear. I will keep my eyes on you, as you keep your eyes on Him. You’re the perfect man to lead me, and I cannot wait to follow.”
She closed the post with Proverbs 18:22: “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.”

McLaughlin’s new ring joins the two Olympic gold medals she captured earlier this month. After winning gold in the women’s 400-meter hurdles in world-record time, she won a second gold in the women’s 4x400m relay.
She’s now set to marry Levrone, a former NFL wide receiver. He was undrafted out of college but was signed by the Baltimore Ravens and spent parts of three seasons with Baltimore, Carolina and Jacksonville before retiring at the age of 25 in 2020.
He joined the Sports Spectrum Podcast in November to talk about walking away from the NFL dream before the dream could happen, why it’s important for him to read God’s Word out of adoration and not obligation, and how his faith in Christ was tested multiple times after suffering injuries in high school and college.
About his engagement to McLaughlin, Levrone wrote on Instagram, “May we never love one another cautiously, but instead always be eager to love one another extravagantly, in the manner that Christ loved the Church.”
He closed his post with Song of Songs 8:5: “Who is this coming up from the wilderness, leaning on the one she loves?”
