“’Don’t be afraid,’ David said to him, ‘for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.’” — 2 Samuel 9:7

There are moments in life so unexpected, so full of grace, they leave us in awe.
Imagine being called out of hiding, broken and ashamed, and brought not just into the presence of the king, but seated at his own table like family.
That was Mephibosheth. He had every reason to remain hidden. As the grandson of Saul, he was a crippled descendant of a fallen regime — vulnerable, forgotten and regarded as an enemy of the crown. However, King David, moved by covenant and compassion, offered an astounding invitation: “You will always eat at my table” (2 Samuel 9:7).
We’ve navigated a world that has told us to be self-reliant, skeptical, strong. But deep down, many of us are like Mephibosheth — wounded by life, running from a past we couldn’t fix, hiding in our own “Lo Debar,” a place of barrenness.
And yet, the King is calling. He made a promise sealed not in politics or legacy, but in the blood of His Son. While we were dead, crippled by sin and helpless to save ourselves, He came for us (Ephesians 2:4-5). We didn’t find Him; He found us and invited us. And like Mephibosheth, we have a choice: remain in hiding or humbly accept grace.
Some of us need to stop running or trying to fix ourselves before we come to Him. The invitation has already been extended. Not just to visit, but to stay. To belong. To be family.
So come. Bring your pain, your regrets, your broken past. The King is not offering pity. He’s offering a seat, a place at His table forever. This is the Gospel — an astounding invitation from a gracious King to sit where we never belonged, and call it home.
